Sean Thompson
Founder | Co-Owner | Nine Realms Athletics
Sean’s journey with discipline and competition started early — training in Tang Soo Do as a kid before moving into baseball, soccer, and football. That competitive drive followed him into adulthood, eventually leading to 10 years in the professional wrestling industry and later into law enforcement in San Francisco.
But strength wasn’t always linear.
In 2004, Sean was diagnosed with three herniated discs. Over time, injuries, stress, and life challenges compounded. His weight climbed past 310 pounds, and he found himself feeling directionless.
In 2012, he made a decision that would change everything. Enough was enough.
With no coach and no roadmap, he started from scratch — basic HIIT cardio, learning how to eat clean, studying training methods, reading constantly, and analyzing bodybuilders and athletes he admired. What began as survival slowly became obsession. Obsession became discipline. Discipline became transformation.
That transformation eventually led to competitive powerlifting, where Sean earned a U.S.
Record at the U.S. Police & Fire Games and an Idaho State Record in the deadlift.
Then life shifted again.
After seven years in law enforcement, Sean was medically retired due to PTSD. During the fight with PTSD, depression, and severe anxiety, one of the only places he consistently felt at home — and safe — was in the gym. Training became more than physical progress. It became stability. It became therapy. It became a way to regain control when everything else felt uncertain.
Leaving law enforcement created a void — not just in career, but in purpose. He had always been driven to serve and protect, to lead, and to help others. Opening Nine Realms Athletics became the bridge between passion and purpose.
It allowed him to combine his love for strength training with his desire to serve the community — particularly veterans, first responders, and the next generation growing up in Canyon County.
After moving to Idaho in 2022, Sean and his family immediately felt at home in Caldwell and Middleton. But they also saw a gap. Too many gyms were filled with low-quality equipment, poor maintenance, and a lack of culture. Members were paying for mediocrity.
Nine Realms Athletics was built to change that.
The vision is simple:
Bring back the no-BS, old-school work ethic — blended with modern technology and elite-level equipment. Create an environment where people want to be. A place that demands discipline but fosters community. A gym that feels like a second home.
Sean may not have come from the gym ownership world, but his background prepared him well. Years in law enforcement developed skills in de-escalation, high-stress operations, leadership under pressure, organization, and attention to detail. Those same principles now guide the culture and standards of Nine Realms Athletics.
He is intense. Passionate. Competitive. Disciplined.
But above all — community-driven and family-first.
Nine Realms Athletics exists for people who are ready to do hard things.
For those willing to sacrifice comfort for growth.
For those who believe they can become more than they are today.
“Exceed Your Expectations” isn’t marketing.
It’s how he rebuilt his life — and it’s the standard inside these walls.
